Sound + Vision

Bateira investigates urgent questions of identity and gender on film. With documentary deals with experiences of resistance as part of the discourse around democracy, justice and freedom, and with the repercussions of the Portuguese colonial presence in South East Asia. Inspired by the visual phenomena, on video explores, within the realm of perception, concepts of poetry and lyricism. Multiplicity is a required strategy in a patriarchal system imposing conformity, invisibility and hyper-vigilance. Creative code-switching is automatic and a cultivated skill. The practices are native tongues, which evolve, inhabiting various dimensions in the creation process.
